So what’s the perfect Christmas to you? A well decorated tree with mounds of presents under it? Being surrounded by family and friends? Finally having the excuse to drink eggnog and eat more dessert in one day than you have all year? Sounds like a plan!
But sometimes Christmas doesn’t always go the way we plan. Money may not be as plentiful as it once was. We may have jobs that keep us away from our family during the holidays. That loved one who shared Christmas with you every year isn’t there anymore. Sometimes the holidays can feel less than perfect, leaving us feeling the same way. Now think back to that first Christmas, the first Christmas.
Of all the people in the world, God chose Mary to bare the Son of God. Imagine that for a moment! How would that have been for a teenager today to take on that responsibility? I’m sure Mary felt frightened and incredibly inadequate. But God saw her as the perfect mother for His child, just like God sees perfection in all of us, suitably created to do what He needs us to do. So- this holiday season, don’t sweat trying to create your own perfect Christmas. Become the instrument of God’s making and show what the miracle of Christ can do for the world!
